In reply to <a href="https://yourparentingmojo.com/captivate-podcast/beauty/#comment-7161">Emily</a>.

Thanks for the comment, Emily - I'd actually be inclined not to comment on a child's clothing choices. What 'goes' together is a cultural preference rather than an objective fact, so if they feel that different kinds of stripes fit I'd say "so be it!". Lots of people are going to 'police' how your daughters dress in the future so perhaps you don't need to be one of them? Just a thought...

I just found your podcast, and really enjoyed this episode. (I have two young daughters.) I would love another episode that builds on this to discuss better how to talk about topics related to looks with girls. While I totally agree that as a culture we put too much of an emphasis on how girls and women look (and I will stop using the word pretty so much), I feel that we need to acknowledge that the culture DOES put a lot of importance on looks. And I would like to be able to talk with my girls about topics like picking out clothes that match, or doing their hair. I let them both run with their own style right now, but it seems like at some point before high school I should maybe point out that people don't typically wear many articles of clothing with different types of stripes all at the same time :-)

I'm so thankful for your podcasts! They have been such a breath of fresh air for me, confirming so much of what I want to be as a parent and now giving me the tools and vision to be that! I love this episode, it came at a great time because I am about to have a really hard conversation with some family members. I am worried about hurting their feelings but I feel like this is a battle worth fighting for my daughter's sake! Thanks again, please keep the great material coming!
