I know parenting is hard right now.
And also, we're facing a lot of challenges in the wider world. For a long time I didn't see the connection between those two things. Now I see the ways we interact with our children on a daily basis shape how they treat others in the world.

It can feel like our children have all the power, and we're at their mercy (so our needs aren't being met). But actually we wield the most power, and we often use it to get them to do what we want (so their needs aren't met).

When we see each person's needs as equally valid, we can find ways to meet both of their needs - which makes everything easier.

And when our children go out into the world respecting other people's needs... the whole world becomes a better place.

I hope you'll join me on this journey!

Let's talk about the really important stuff
How do I give my child the best possible start in life?

Does parenting have to be this hard?

Why do I feel so triggered by my child's behavior?

What can I possibly do about the world's challenges?

How can I make sure my child doesn't hurt in the same way I have hurt?

How can we make the world a better place for all children?

I spend a lot of time looking at scientific research on parenting and child development.

I do want to know what it can tell us about our experience... but I also look beyond it to critique its methods and the unstated assumptions in it. (Many people think that science is value-neutral and will tell us The Objective Answers, but actually it reflects our biases back to us.)

I want to share the research with you, as well as the analysis and insights, as we go deeper. We'll look at the hard questions that keep us up at night and find a path forward that's aligned with our values.

Your Parenting Mojo acknowledges the Lisjan Ohlone people, the rightful stewards of the land on which we live and work.  While the Lisjan Ohlone people can never be fully compensated for the harms that the legacy of colonialism has wrought, we pay the Shuumi Land Tax as recognition that more than words are needed, and we encourage others to engage meaningfully (including financially) with their local Indigenous communities.
